A six-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was stabbed multiple times in Montreal’s east end, according to police.

Service de police de la ville de Montreal (SPVM) officers responded to a Desautels St. apartment close to the Hochelaga St. intersection after receiving a call at about 3 a.m. on Thursday, reports CTV News.

The girl was found by police next to a 36-year-old woman. Police are still unsure about the relationship between the woman and the girl.

Police say the woman was transported to hospital for minor injuries after being taken into custody for questioning.

SPVM has established a perimeter around the area while crime scene technicians and investigators analyze it. Part of Desautels St. is closed from Pierre-de Coubertin Ave to Hochelaga St.
