On Tuesday, President Donald Trump asked SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to bring home two astronauts "abandoned" by the Biden administration.

For the last 8 months, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams have been stranded on the International Space Station. The June mission was only meant to be a week long. According to Fox News, Wilmore and Williams arrived at the International Space Station on a Boeing Starliner, but the capsule developed helium leaks and thruster problems making it too risky for the craft to carry passengers back to Earth.

There was a plan to rescue the NASA astronauts on a SpaceX capsule arriving back on Earth by February, but it was delayed. The capsule was also supposed to carry replacement astronauts.

Trump posted on Truth Social, "I have just asked Elon Musk and @SpaceX to ‘go get’ the 2 brave astronauts who have been virtually abandoned in space by the Biden Administration. They have been waiting for many months on @Space Station. Elon will soon be on his way. Hopefully, all will be safe. Good luck Elon!!!"

Musk, Trump’s head of the new Department of Government Efficiency, replied he would bring them home "as soon as possible." He posted on X Tuesday evening, "The @POTUS has asked @SpaceX to bring home the 2 astronauts stranded on the @SpaceStation as soon as possible. We will do so, Terrible that the Biden administration left them there so long."
