The lawmakers stand ready to support the Senate Majority Leader to "bring the SAVE America Act to the floor” and “use every available rule to advance it."

State legislators working with the State Freedom Caucus Network from across the fruited plain are urging the U.S. Senate to bring the SAVE America Act to the floor for a vote, warning that procedural maneuvers must not be used to derail this legislation that enjoys majority support.

In a February 23 letter addressed to Senate Majority Leader John Thune they expressed “strong support” for the SAVE America Act (S.1383) and pressed for an honest, up-or-down vote on the bill itself.

“We understand that a cloture vote is not a vote on the bill,” the letter states, cautioning that using the procedural mechanism “to block or bury the legislation” would not go unnoticed. The signers made clear that voters are increasingly aware of Senate procedure and would recognize the difference between advancing the bill and sidelining it.

The SAVE America Act would require citizenship verification for voter registration, mandate photo identification, and ensure more accurate voter rolls. The signers also emphasized that federal inaction has hindered states from implementing meaningful citizenship verification policies.

The lawmakers point out that election integrity is foundational to the Republic, writing that “a Republic cannot endure when its citizens doubt the legitimacy of its ballots.” They noted that public trust in elections has eroded and describe the bill’s provisions as “minimum safeguards” designed to restore confidence in American elections.

The letter is signed by legislators from 15 states, including Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

The lawmakers stand ready to support the Senate Majority Leader to “bring the SAVE America Act to the floor” and “use every available rule to advance it,” including holding a real talking filibuster. They warn that the political consequences of procedural obstruction to block this bill could be significant for lawmakers on the ballot this fall.
