Streaming platform Netflix caused controversy after it released a new X-rated miniseries "Supersex." Some users threatened to cancel their subscriptions after viewing an explicit clip from the show.
According to The Daily Mail, the short clip, which showed the main character simulating sex with multiple women, was posted to the Netflix Instagram account but has since been deleted.
Screenshots taken by the outlet show users who flocked to the comments section to voice their displeasure about the clip. "Isn't this inappropriate for a platform where KIDS FOLLOW YOU?!" one user wrote.
"Now we have porn on Netflix as well?" another user questioned. "Cancelling account while we speak, my kids can't see this."
Other users complained about this type of content becoming a cultural norm. "It's really sad that this is accepted in modern culture. The hyper-sexualisation of our society and generation is depressing and degrading to the value of both genders," a user said.
"Are we just making porn mainstream now?" another added. "It's pretty sickening that there is no warning on explicit content like this."
On its website, Netflix described the series as "Inspired by true events, this is the story of how Rocco Siffredi escaped a humble life and emerged as the world's greatest porn star."
The Mail noted that Siffredi stared in over 1,500 x-rated films, and slept with more than 5,000 people since he began performing in 1986. In an interview with the Independent, the shows Filmmaker Francesca Manieri said, "My goal was to put men in front of themselves."
"This is what we call the phallocentric system, the system in which the dick is the centrum of the thought before everything," She continued. "So what can you do right now, [in] 2024, to understand the relationship between men and women? And how can men put themselves in front of the image of their symbolic dick and try to deconstruct all of this?"
Netflix previously caused boycotts after the platform released the "Cuties" movie, a show about children twerking. Many were outraged at the outlet for publishing a film that hyper-sexualized 11-year-old girls.
