Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place Sunday afternoon inside The Hideout, a gated residential community near Lake Ariel in Wayne County.

Authorities confirmed that one person was killed and two others were injured in the incident. Both surviving victims were taken into surgery. 26-year-old Lucas Gartrell was taken into custody, and police say there is no ongoing threat to the public, per ABC16.

"I praise the coordinated efforts of all law enforcement agencies, EMS responders, The Hideout public security, and neighbors involved in this incident for helping the victims and swiftly apprehending Mr. Gartell," District Attorney AG Howell said. "We continue to investigate and will diligently and appropriately prosecute the crimes charged against Mr. Gartell."

Capt. Michael Walsh, commanding officer of Troop R, said the investigation involves multiple scenes within the Lake and Salem township community. “We are continuing our investigation and urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Pennsylvania State Police,” a spokesperson said.

According to Times Now, residents were startled by the sound of gunfire and soon saw a large police presence flood the neighborhood. Troopers from the Honesdale barracks quickly cordoned off the area while forensic teams collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.

The Hideout, home to approximately 3,200 single-family residences, includes both year-round and seasonal residents. PSP emphasized that residents could return home safely but that officers would continue to maintain a visible presence as the investigation continues.

The Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the shooting and are working to determine the motive and whether any additional individuals were involved. Authorities are also reminding the public not to share unverified details on social media while the investigation is underway.

Law enforcement officials have pledged to provide updates as more information becomes available. Public safety, they said, remains their highest priority.
