Calgary police have charged a 29-year-old male suspect in connection with an incident that occurred in the southeast of Calgary in 2007, in which Tara-Anne Landgraf was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death.
Landgraf's body was found at the 700 block of Burns Av. SE, in the Ramsay neighbourhood, with evidence of sexual assault and multiple stab wounds. She was 37 at the time.
According to CTV News, authorities believed and continue to believe that Landgraf had no personal connection with her attacker whatsoever.
The accused, who was 16 years old at the time of the murder and as such can't be identified publicly, was apprehended in Edmonton and taken to Calgary, where he is currently in police custody. He was charged with murder on Friday and will appear in court on Feb. 16 in Calgary.
Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm of the CPS homicide issued a statement:
"We never stop in our pursuit of justice for murder victims. As technology advances, we are continuously reviewing unsolved homicides to see how new techniques can be applied to find new leads and bring answers to families of murder victims," commented Sgt. Chisholm.
"Investigators have been in touch with Tara-Anne’s loved ones and they are relieved after all this time to have answers in her tragic death."
