Right before a Tuesday meeting with Democrats surrounding President Joe Biden's path forward in the upcoming 2024 election, a group of swing district Democrats gathered in a solemn meeting where there were "actual tears."

As Biden has not stopped in his campaigning and has vowed to run against Donald Trump in November, some swing district Democrats in Congress are feeling the heat in what would be an already close race down-ballot, according to Axios. The group of battleground district Democrats is one of the last remaining groups in what has been reported to be a "disintegrating" effort on the Hill to get Biden to bow out of the race.

One lawmaker at the meeting described it as "intense" and another said that "there were actual tears from people, and not for Biden." If Biden remains on the ticket, swing district Democrats will feel the effects of it down-ballot in November. "Most of our caucus is still with him ... meaning he'll stay in. Which sucks for our country," one Democrat said who had been in the larger meeting as well as the swing group meeting.

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who had pushed for Biden to step down earlier in the week, commented, "Whether or not I have concerns is besides the point. He is going to be our nominee and, we all have to support him." On Monday evening, a House Dem said that the movement of Democrats to pressure Biden to get out of the race is "folding all over the place" with many congressional representatives "becoming resigned to Biden holding all the cards."

"As someone who wanted the reckoning and is really disappointed that it's over, trust me: it's over," the Democrat representative added. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) said that Biden, with his letter on Monday morning, "Clearly did a preemptive effort to try to discourage any questions."

In the letter, Biden demanded the Democrats on Capitol Hill unify around him in order to beat Trump. "The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it's time for it to end. We have one job. And that is to beat Donald Trump. We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us," the letter stated.
