Ted Cruz defends fired Mandalorian actress Gina Carano

"Texan Gina Carano broke barriers in the Star Wars universe: not a princess, not a victim, not some emotionally tortured Jedi. She played a woman who kicked ass & who girls looked up to."

Ted Cruz added his name on Thursday to the growing amount of voices supporting Gina Carano, the actress who has just been cancelled from a leading role in "The Mandalorian."

"Texan Gina Carano broke barriers in the Star Wars universe: not a princess, not a victim, not some emotionally tortured Jedi. She played a woman who kicked ass & who girls looked up to. She was instrumental in making Star Wars fun again. Of course Disney canceled her."

Carano was recently fired by Disney, supposedly because of a tweet she made comparing modern Hollywood to Nazi Germany. In the tweet, she made a "slippery slope" argument, saying that "hating someone for their political views" is a first step to something much worse.

Critics have quickly pointed out that Pedro Pascal, "The Mandalorian"'s  protagonist, made a similar post on social media, where he compared children being held in immigration facilities to concentration camps.

Carano has been a controversial figure on more than one occasion over the past several months, as an unabashedly openly conservative person in the acting profession.

She has also previously clashed with the "woke" community online for refusing to give pronouns (when ordered by strangers online to do so), among many other issues of the day.

The rest of Twitter continues to lock horns in a heated debate over the issue. Cruz, however, was not without his supporters.

"They hate women being anything other than helpless victims who need the government to be their provider. Thats why they fired her"

"The people happy that she got fired for this are the same people that complain about Kapernick not having a job in the NFL"
