The threats against the school came following a viral video in which a trans-identified male brutally beat a female student.
Authorities evacuated the school on Sept. 29 after threats of violence were posted on Snapchat the day prior and sent to the school via email that morning. According to the school district, the email included detailed bomb threats against the school, staff, and the homes of the superintendent and board members, along with their personal addresses, KGW8 reports.
In a joint statement on Wednesday, the Tualatin Police Department, Washington County Juvenile Department, and Tigard-Tualatin School District announced the arrest of the minor and that further safety protocols have been put in place.
"The youth alleged to be responsible for the social media threat has been arrested by the Tualatin Police Department," the joint statement reads.
"While we cannot disclose the current status of the youth responsible for the threat in terms of enrollment, we assure students and parents that measures have been implemented to ensure their safety at Hazebrook Middle School and all TTSD schools since the threat was made," they said.
Due to the suspect's age, state law prevents authorities from releasing the identity of the minor and details surrounding an ongoing investigation.
The district informed KGW that Safe Oregon had sent them multiple reports on September 28 regarding "threats against individuals and our school." Although Tualatin police and the district determined the threats were unsubstantiated, the district reported that on the morning of September 29, they received an email with "direct and detailed threats to staff and the school."
Authorities and school district officials believe the threats relate to the viral video that circulated across social media last week.
The brutal beatdown captured on video shows a trans-identified student, a biological male, throwing multiple blows to the female student's head after he violently grabbed her hair, yanked her back and forth, then knocked her down flat in the school hallway.
Authorities have filed charges against the trans-identified male student, and the victim's mother stated that they will be taking legal action against him.
