The robber then reportedly crossed the street and robbed a 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman.
A delegate from Texas at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) was a victim of armed robbery while he was out walking in downtown Chicago on early Wednesday morning, CWBChicago reports.
The unidentified delegate said he and a friend were out walking along the 100 block of West Randolph in Chicago’s downtown core at approximately 2 am when he was robbed at gunpoint. A black Range Rover pulled up near the Allegro Royal Sonesta Hotel Chicago and a masked man with a gun emerged, reportedly stealing the 25-year-old's wallet and room key.
The robber then reportedly crossed the street and robbed a 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, the Chicago Police Department told CWB. No one was injured in the crime.
Chicago police believe the robberies were committed not by one person but by a duo and that the pair are suspected of committing another burglary in the same vicinity at around the same time. Police suspect the two assailants of robbing three people outside the Emily Hotel in Chicago. The vehicle sighted at that theft was a similar vehicle.
According to CPD, the robbers also committed a robbery in the 200 block of West 23rd Place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Police say the suspects are two black males wearing black clothing with ski masks covering their faces. They are between 5’7 and 5’9” tall.
Chicago is a high-crime city with regular shootings and killings by rival gangs. The convention has been beset by protests, almost entirely by anti-Israel NGOs while Jewish groups have been barred from marching in the city. House Democrats were told to book hotels under assumed names due to security concerns.
