Texas state troopers found over 105 illegal migrants being smuggled into the United States when authorities pulled over a semi-truck on Route 59 near Laredo.

Fox News reports that the driver, Michael Warren McCoy, is now in jail and facing human smuggling charges. The town of Laredo has recently seen a lot of migrant smuggling with another 100 migrants apprehended last week.

Lt. Chris Olivarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety says the migrants are being smuggled in to avoid apprehension.

"They're being smuggled for a reason. So they avoid apprehension because they fear being deported," said Olivarez. "Also, you may have some criminals that may be mixed in with those groups that are trying to get away as well."

According to Customs and Border Protection, over 1 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States since the inauguration of President Joe Biden. One of Biden's first moves as president was to halt the construction of the border wall.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been critical of Biden's response to the ongoing border crisis and has called for the wall to be finished. In a tweet, he called on Democrats to get back to work to address the issue.

Border Patrol agents uncovered a human smuggling operation mid-June in Van Horn, Texas, after rescuing 33 migrants crammed inside of a U-Haul truck "who were close to perishing due to excessive heat," per officials.
