The View's Ana Navarro claims Trump-supporting Latinos are trying to 'pass as more American'

"There are some Latino immigrants who forget they came here as immigrants and who want to shut the door behind them, and who think being anti-immigrant somehow is going to make them pass as more American."

Speaking with CNN’s Jim Acosta on Friday, The View co-host Ana Navarro claimed that Latinos who support Trump are attempting to make themselves "pass as more American."

"There are some Latino immigrants who forget they came here as immigrants and who want to shut the door behind them, and who think being anti-immigrant somehow is going to make them pass as more American, pass as whatever," she said.

During the same interview, Navarro claimed that this was a "very stupid attitude to have."

Navarro’s comments come as recent polling has shown Trump gaining ground in minority groups such as Hispanic and black voters.

Polling from the New York Times from earlier in May revealed that Trump was leading Biden in five swing states, with New York Times chief political analyst Nate Cohn saying at the time, "Trump's strength is largely thanks to gains among young, Black and Hispanic voters."

In the six swing states polled, Trump had 13 percent of the non-white vote during the 2020 election. This is now up to 19 percent.

Separate polling from CNN revealed Trump’s support among black voters is 22 percent so far in the 2024 election cycle, up from 9 percent at this point during the 2020 cycle.

Trump on Thursday, the day before Navarro’s comments, held a rally in the Bronx, an area that has a 57 percent Hispanic and a 28 percent black population.
