Tim Walz encourages voters to have ‘hard conversations’ about politics with strangers at the grocery store

"It's gonna be won in rooms just like this. It's gonna be won door-to-door, call-to-call, $5 donation, trying to have that hard conversation in the produce aisle with the person you saw there at the grocery store.”

At a rally in Wisconsin, Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz urged voters to approach strangers in public, including the grocery store, to have “hard conversation[s]” about voting in the upcoming election.

"This thing's going to be a battle for the next 52 days," Walz said at the rally. "It's gonna be won in rooms just like this. It's gonna be won door-to-door, call-to-call, $5 donation, trying to have that hard conversation in the produce aisle with the person you saw there at the grocery store.”

Walz claimed that Democrats will win in the upcoming election if they turn out to vote. The Minnesota governor also accused Republicans of attempting to suppress voter turnout, contrasting this with the Democrats' so-called stance of encouraging voter participation.

"That choice of voter suppression versus voter engagement, we choose the joyful path," Walz claimed. "We choose to take our chances with explaining what we stand for, standing on our record, letting everybody vote, counting every vote fairly, and then accepting the results of that."

Walz’s comments in Wisconsin come as the state plays a crucial role in the upcoming election. In 2020, President Biden won the state by only about 21,000 votes. Former President Donald Trump carried the state as well in 2016 against Hillary Clinton by a similar margin. The state has voted for the eventual winner of the last four presidential elections.

In response to Walz’s comments at the rally Jacob Fischer, the Trump campaign’s Wisconsin Press Secretary, said “It's clear that the Harris-Walz vision for America is one of chaos and destruction.”

"In stark contrast, President Donald J. Trump will fight to restore safety, security, and prosperity to every corner of the nation. While Kamala Harris and Tim Walz cater to the Radical Left, President Trump remains committed to putting Wisconsinites first and protecting American values,” Fischer added, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
