A Toronto police officer has been charged after allegedly taking a missing person's debit card.

On Monday, a Toronto police officer was arrested and charged with multiple offences after he allegedly took possession of a missing person's belongings and misappropriated their debit card.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 27.

On Tuesday, the Toronto Police Service issued a press release detailing the case against the officer, who has been identified as 48-year-old Boris Borissov.

According to the Service, Borissov was assigned to a missing person investigation on February 17, and allegedly went on to take possession of their personal belongings, including their debit card.

Borissov then allegedly gave the debit card to another man, who used it to make a purchase at a shop in Mississauga.

The statement also reveals that Borissov and the other man "fraudulently obtained motor vehicles."

Borissov, a 16-year veteran of the Service, has been charged with theft, three counts of breach of trust, trafficking a credit card, use of a credit card in commission of an offence, attempt to obstruct justice, possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized use of a computer system, and fraud.

As per the Police Services Act, Borrissov has been suspended with pay.

The Service is urging anyone who may have more information to contact them directly at 416-808-2800, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS, or www.222tips.com.
