An 82-year-old trans-identifying male inmate in Kansas, currently serving three life sentences for killing and sexually abusing multiple women in 1969 and 1970, has filed a lawsuit demanding to be allowed to live amongst the female prison's general population.

Thomas Lamb, who goes by Michelle, has been kept isolated from female inmates due to the nature of the crimes committed, and conduct in prison.

According to Reduxx, Lamb filed suit against the Topeka Correctional Facility, Kansas Department of Corrections, and Governor Laura Kelly, alleging that the system was acting in a discriminatory manner by denying the aforementioned request.

"This is a grievance against everyone involved in placing me on OSR [other security risk] and HR [housing restriction] status, and keeping me on this status for what is now six months," Lamb stated. "I request I be placed on general population status immediately, and all information used to place me on this OSR status be removed from my file."

The inmate claimed to be dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression as a result of being separated from female inmates, and that these issues had led to "numerous bouts of diarrhea."

"I'm being treated as if I'm public enemy number one here at TCF, being escorted by two officers all the time," Lamb added. "I feel miserable and wake up crying at night. I'm denied the most basic need, especially for us females: the need to have close contact and relationships with other females."
As Reduxx reports, Lamb first presented as female while in prison in 2006, and has since been afforded a number of concessions, including access to estrogen and testosterone-blocking drugs, and the ability to wear women's underwear, makeup, and earrings.

During Lamb’s time behind bars, the inmate has violated rules regarding lewd activity and contact with other inmates. At one point, Lamb entered into a relationship with a 30-year-old female prisoner.

The American Civil Liberties Union has provided Lamb with legal representation, and a ruling is set to be delivered in early May.
