Jared McBrady, a historian and professor of SUNY Cortland in New York State, wrote an op-ed highly critical of many world leaders' treatment of the unvaccinated, including that of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

McBrady also mentioned in the piece, which was published on Monday,  he wrote that Emmanuel Macron in France is also guilty of what he calls "othering" the unvaccinated.

In the article which appeared on the web page of the Brownstone Institute, McBrady defined "othering" as the "process of dehumanizing through marginalizing a group of humans as something different, less than, and other."

McBrady went on to state that "such othered groups become an easy target to scapegoat, unfairly bearing the blame for a society’s ills."

“History is replete with examples of othering," he continued.

"The Ancient Greeks othered based on language, labeling those who did not speak Greek barbarians."

"In the United States, chattel slavery and segregation were sustained through othering based on skin color. In Nazi Germany, Hitler othered based on religion, casting Jewish people as enemies of the state."

McBrady then brings things into the modern age, showing the dangers we are facing right now, in his opinion:

"Now, some politicians are othering the 'unvaccinated.' These politicians attempt to scapegoat and marginalize this minority group, despite knowing that vaccinated and unvaccinated persons alike can contract and spread COVID-19."
