Trudeau government lost track of deficit after unprecedented spending

The Trudeau government has spent such a large sum of money over such a short period of time that they are unable to determine what the deficit is, according to Blacklock's Reporter.  

Speaking to the Commons Finance Committee, Budget Officer Yves Giroux said that "it’s very difficult to estimate what is a likely deficit figure given that details are missing for some of these potentially very expensive measures."

On Tuesday, Trudeau's Department of Finance reaffirmed this fear, saying that they had no estimate on the amount of money spent by the government in the last nine weeks.

The coronavirus lockdown has thrown Canada into deep economic trauma, with some government economists predicting that Canada's debt could hit $1 trillion dollars.

Giroux told Members of Parliment that it was both "possible" and "realistic" for this to occur. It is "certainly not unthinkable" for the debt to reach this bleak milestone, he added.

So far, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has not revealed any comprehensive plan that would guide Canada out of the lockdown and it is equally uncertain how he will begin to repair Canada's tattered economy.

"There will be time after this is all done as we figure out how exactly this unfolds, where we will have to make next decisions on how that recovery looks," said the prime minister.
