The Trudeau government was warned that Canadians have a high level of distrust when it comes to their attempts to regulate the internet.
This was discovered after research was conducted by the privy council, according to Blacklock's Reporter.
The privy council research found that a significant number of Canadians opposed further internet regulation. "Most participants rejected the idea of placing limits on or regulating what is said online," said the report.
"They generally favoured an environment in which free speech is promoted even if that meant offensive comments or material may appear online."
Despite this, the Trudeau government remains steadfast with its internet censorship, saying that it is a top priority.
"It is a priority for the government," said Trudeau's new Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez. "We mentioned it during the campaign and we maintain it is a priority."
Rodriguez has vowed that internet censorship legislation will be tabled very soon. Having said that, parliament adjourns for the winter recess this Friday.
"What I can tell you is it is coming soon," Rodriguez added. "It’s going to be a very good bill. I am sure you will be satisfied with many sections if not all of the bill. It’s so important."
