Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault mocked Conservative Party Leader Erin O'Toole in a tweet on Thursday, by wearing a shirt that says "Climate change is real" in celebration of Earth Day.

The shirt is in reference to O'Toole once wearing a pro-oil and gas t-shirt, and was likely a jab at the leader's newly unveiled climate plan. The plan was heavily criticized by the Liberals and other opposition parties, with Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson calling it a "'Petro Points' scheme where the more you burn, the more you earn."

The pro-oil shirt has proven to be somewhat controversial in and of itself.

In 2019, the CFO of a petroleum company was asked to remove his short or leave the grounds of the Canadian Senate due to his wearing of one of the "I [heart] oil & gas" shirts.

The Parliamentary Protective Service would end up making an apology to the man, calling the situation a "misinterpretation."

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney also wore the shirt on-field during the opening ceremonies of the 2019 Grey Cup.
