To mark the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spent the day surfing and staying in a multimillion-dollar beachfront rental in Tofino, British Columbia.

The rental, which boasts beachfront views and multiple buildings, is valued by Sotheby’s International Realty as being $18.75 million.

According to the Toronto Sun, numerous owners of the property have been identified.

Title searches state that the property’s owner as a Calgary businesswoman.

"Municipal land records from 2012 also identify the property’s owner as a numbered corporation, whose website advertises itself as a “secure payment processing solution” for the cannabis industry," wrote the Toronto Sun.

Dun & Bradstreet states that the current owner’s husband is that corporation’s key principal.

The property is also listed as being exempt from BC's speculation and vacancy tax, a tax introduced by the province to discourage foreign investors from purchasing residential properties as investments and letting them sit empty. "It’s also exempt from additional provincial land transfer taxes normally levied against foreign nationals who sell property in BC," wrote the Toronto Sun.

The Lynn Road property is listed as sitting on Chesterman Beach, and boasted as being a "surfer’s paradise."

According to the Sotheby’s listing, the 1.21-acre property features "majestic four-bedroom, four-bathroom main residence, a luxurious two-bedroom guest house, and cozy children's treehouse. A single bedroom cottage/caretaker home with a full kitchen sits near the estate's entrance," with all properties being connected by boardwalks through forests.

The property, according to the Toronto Sun, features West Coast Indigenous art, including a hand-carved front door featuring depictions of two Haida Orcas.

The Trudeau’s stayed at this house on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, a day that the Prime Minister had received an invitation from Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Chief Rosanne Casimir to visit the community where the remains of 215 children were found on the grounds of a former residential school earlier this year.

Trudeau reportedly issued an apology to Casimir over the phone on Sunday, but faces calls for a public apology.

According to the Tofino-Ucluelet Westerly News, First Nation members and leaders gathered on Chesterman Beach near the rental to demand a public apology from Trudeau for not attending reconciliation day events.
