Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has introduced a fundamental shift in Canada's relationship with Hong Kong after the Chinese regime introduced a new security bill to the city state.

The law dramatically disregards terms set out in the 1997 by the British government and the then-Chinese government. Originally, Hong Kong is supposed to be in a one country, two systems" agreement.

This law will aim to target "secession, subversion and terrorism." Many Hong Kongers see this bill as the pen-ultimate attack on their liberty.

Speaking to reporters, Trudeau said that Canada believes in the "one country, two systems philosophy."

As a result of this, Foreign Affairs Minister François-Philippe Champagne said that Canada is suspending its extradition treaty with Hong Kong. This means that Hong Kong will effectively be treated as a city within China.

Speaking about this law, Champagne said that "this process demonstrated disregard for Hong Kong's basic law and the high degree of autonomy promised for Hong Kong under the 'one country, two systems' framework."

"Hong Kong's role as a global hub was built on that foundation. Without it, Canada is forced to reassess existing agreements," he added.

As well as this, sensitive equipment—like ammunition and technology—will be restricted, and in some cases, entirely banned from entering Hong Kong.
