With elementary schools set to begin reopening in Quebec, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not certain he would allow his children to attend if they were to study there, according to CBC News.
He was asked about the subject on Tout le monde en parle on Sunday.
"I don't know," he said. "It's a very personal decision for many, many parents."
Trudeau added that he would need to know how schools will be following public health recommendations and what changes will be implemented.
"I would make that decision probably at the last minute," he said.
The reopening in Quebec is voluntary and high schools are not included in the move. The return is set to take place on May 11 throughout the majority of the province and May 19 around Montreal.
"It's tough on kids, they want to see their friends," Trudeau said. "It's tough on parents."
In the Montreal area, some schools have already asked parents to let them know if their children will be attending.
No other provinces plan to reopen their schools before summer.
The move has faced some backlash and certain school boards say they may not be able to reopen by the dates the government has set.
Some Montreal residents don’t believe the shift is safe as the city has around half of the province’s 30,000 plus cases.
