Trudeau's Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland could not tell the Finance Committee how much debt there is in Canada.

Instead of answering the question from the Conservative Finance Critic Pierre Poilievre, Freeland said that "we are going to give a full report on Canada's public finances on Tuesday."

Poilievre then tried to redirect Freeland to the question when she began to discuss a separate question.

Later on, Poilievre tweeted that the "finance minister could not tell the committee how much debt there is in Canada today or how much a 1% interest rate increase would cost taxpayers on the national debt."

"That is not a joke," he added.

Chrystia Freeland has made the Forbes list of the 100 most powerful women in the world. She also serves as the deputy prime minister.

Freeland became a member of parliament in 2013 in a Toronto riding of University—Rosedale.

As finance minister, Freeland has watched over unprecedented spending from the federal government and a surging inflation rate, which the Bank of Canada expects to reach 5 percent.

On top of this, Canada's unemployment rate stands at a miserable 6.7 percent while small businesses suffer from dramatic labour shortages.
