“Well, if that’s true, she shouldn’t be in Congress and we should throw her the hell out of our country!”
Speaking Sunday, Trump accused Omar of entering the United States through an immigration scheme involving her brother — a claim she has repeatedly denied — and said she should be removed from office. “Somalia, you have [Ilhan Omar] — she supposedly came into our country by marrying her brother,” Trump said. “Well, if that’s true, she shouldn’t be in Congress and we should throw her the hell out of our country!”
The comments are the latest in Trump's bashing of Somalia, a failed country with little to show off. In October, Trump made a comment during the government shutdown, where he blamed Democrats for the funding impasse and said their internal divisions reminded him of a failed state. The shutdown began after Congress failed to reach a short-term deal to extend federal funding into November.
During an Oval Office appearance with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump said the stalemate had given his administration “an opportunity” to identify and cut “billions in waste, fraud, and abuse,” arguing Democrats “made a big mistake” by blocking a Republican-backed stopgap measure.
He praised his budget director, Russ Vought, as “a very serious person” working to prepare the next round of spending cuts. The president added that Democrats “have no real leader,” describing the party’s internal disarray as similar to a failed state. “I’m getting calls from Democrats wanting to meet—I’ve never even heard their names before. They remind me of Somalia,” Trump said.
Trump then turned his comments toward Omar. “I met the president of Somalia and told him about the problem he’s got,” Trump said. “I said, ‘You’ve got someone from Somalia telling us how to run our country. Would you like to take her back?’ He said, ‘No, I don’t want her.’ You know who I’m talking about.”
