After calling for President Joe Biden's resignation over the weekend, former President Donald Trump took aim at the missing head-of-state in another statement on Monday.
He wrote: "First Joe Biden surrendered to COVID and it has come roaring back. Then he surrendered to the Taliban, who has quickly overtaken Afghanistan and destroyed confidence in American power and influence. The outcome in Afghanistan, including the withdrawal, would have been totally different if the Trump Administration had been in charge. Who or what will Joe Biden surrender to next? Someone should ask him, if they can find him."
President Biden has yet to address the nation or make a statement on the difficult withdrawal of Americans and US Armed Forces from Afghanistan after a near 20 year conflict. When reporters tried to reach the White House press office for comment over the weekend, they learned that Press Secretary Psaki was "out of the office."
Trump had set a timeline of withdrawal for May 1, 2021, but the Biden administration delayed that process, and by many accounts, it's been a total disaster.
Afghans desperate to leave the country were seen climbing aboard planes as they sped down the runway. Some of these were able to cling to the planes until they were airborne before dropping to their deaths.
Secretary of State Tony Blinken told CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday that "The fact of the matter is we've seen that that force has been unable to defend the country and that has happened more quickly than we anticipated."
MSNBC reported that the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan had been "relatively peaceful," while Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley said that the timeline for terrorists to regroup in that nation has been sped up.
