Vice President Kamala Harris turned heads on Saturday when she announced at a rally in Las Vegas that she would work to "eliminate taxes on tips for hospitality and service utility workers" if elected. The promise was met with enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

However, this pledge is identical to one of former President Donald Trump's key campaign promises he has been promoting throughout the year. Trump has frequently discussed his plan to end taxes on tips during his campaign events, emphasizing it as a priority should he win a second term.

In response to Harris's announcement, Trump took to Truth Social to criticize her, stating, “Kamala Harris, whose ‘honeymoon’ period is ENDING, and is starting to get hammered in the polls, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS policy. The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for political purposes!"

"This was a TRUMP idea - she has no ideas, she can only steal from me," he continued. "Remember, Kamala has proposed the largest tax increase in history - it won’t happen. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Trump has previously shared that the idea of stopping taxing tips came to him during a dinner at his Las Vegas hotel, where a waitress expressed frustration about having to pay taxes on her tips. Her story inspired Trump to make it a central part of his platform. The idea quickly gained traction, with many Trump supporters starting a trend to write “Vote Trump. No tax on tips,” on a receipt to urge service workers to vote for him.

"For those hotel workers and people that get tips, you're going to be very happy, because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips. … It's been a point of contention for years and years and years, and you do a great job of service, you take care of people and I think it's going to be something that really is deserved," Trump said back in June when he visited Las Vegas himself.
