"'The dumbest man on television,' Don Lemon, has finally been fired from Fake News CNN. My only question is, WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG?"
Upon hearing the news, Donald Trump called Lemon "the dumbest man on television," questioning how he managed to remain on the network for as long as he had.
"Good News," Trump said on Truth Social. "'The dumbest man on television,' Don Lemon, has finally been fired from Fake News CNN. My only question is, WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG?"
This isn't the first time Trump has ascribed that particular label to Lemon. In 2019, when the former president was still active on Twitter, he slammed the CNN anchor for suggesting he was racist.
"CNN’s Don Lemon, the dumbest man on television, insinuated last night while asking a debate 'question' that I was a racist, when in fact I am 'the least racist person in the world'," Trump tweeted.
"Perhaps someone should explain to Don that he is supposed to be neutral, unbiased & fair," he continued, "or is he too dumb (stupid} to understand that. No wonder CNN’s ratings (MSNBC’s also) have gone down the tubes - and will stay there until they bring credibility back to the newsroom. Don’t hold your breath!"
When Lemon was demoted from his primetime slot to the morning show in September, Trump once again referred to him as "the dumbest man on television," saying he "made even Lebron James look smart during their interview."
On Monday, Lemon announced on Twitter that he had been terminated from CNN, claiming that he had found out via his agent and not from a senior member of the management team.
CNN responded by stating that Lemon "was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter."
