On Tuesday, the third week of Donald Trump's civil fraud trial kicked off in Manhattan Supreme Court, with the former president making his first appearance in two weeks.
He maintained that the trial was nothing more than "election interference," and slammed Judge Arthur Engoron as "highly political."
"I greatly appreciate all of the legal professors and scholars that are saying I DID NOTHING WRONG," Trump said in a post on TruthSocial. "I can't have a JURY and am being viciously tried under a Statute that has never been used before."
"The Radical Left Democrat Judge, WHO IS HIGHLY POLITICAL, serves as Judge, Jury, and everything else," he continued. "America cannot let this happen. Our legal system is corrupt and broken!"
Speaking with reporters outside the courtroom, the former president said his wife, Melania, believes what was going on was a "total disgrace."
"It's all election interference and it all starts with the DOJ," he added. "It starts with Biden."
New York Attorney General Letitia James, who filed the lawsuit against Trump, was also present in the courtroom on Tuesday.
She has accused Trump of exaggerating the value of his properties and inflating his net worth in order to secure better terms for loans he has taken out over the years.
According to Reuters, a real-estate appraiser who played a role in evaluating 40 Wall Street is expected to take the stand and testify, along with an accountant from the Trump Organization who helped look after the internal bookkeeping.
The former president and his supporters have cast doubt on the appraisals provided by the prosecution, including the valuation of his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida at just $18 million.
Many were quick to point out that similar properties nearby were going for much more.
Trump had made comments against members of the prosecution until Judge Engoron eventually issued a gag order. A similar order came about from Obama-appointed Judge Tanya Chutkan regarding Trump's January 6 case on Monday.
