Update: In response to the reports about Elon Musk having a role in a potential Trump administration, Musk posted: "There have not been any discussions of a role for me in a potential Trump Presidency."

Donald Trump and Elon Musk met to discuss Musk's potential role as a presidential advisor in the next White House should Trump win the 2024 election. Per a report from the Wall Street Journal, the two men talked about Musk giving "formal input" on matter such as border security and the economy. Musk is a businessman, as was Trump, and has run successful companies such as Space X and Tesla.

Musk and Trump were joined by billionaire investor Nathan Peltz on plans to "invest in a data-driven project to prevent voter fraud," WSJ reports. The business leaders also discussed with Trump their intentions to "host gatherings of powerful business leaders across the country to try to convince them not to support President Biden’s re-election campaign." A Silicon Valley fundraiser has already been planned for June.

Trump brought his youngest son Barron, who just graduated high school, to the meeting while Musk attended with his young son X, who oftentimes joins the entrepreneur for events and meetings.

Musk had working on White House business edvisory groups during Trump's first term in office but left after Trump took the US out of the Paris Climate Accords, a decision with which Musk disagreed. The two were exchanging insults publicly just a couple years ago but have grown friendlier in talks on the phone and have developed a better rapport with each other ahead of the election. This despite Trump's anti-EV stance and Musk running EV auto maker Tesla.

Musk reinstated Trump's account on X in 2022 after it was permanently suspended by previous owner Jack Dorsey in the way of the January 6, 2021 Capitol Riot. The only post Trump has put out since then on Twitter-turned-X is his mugshot from August 2023.

This meeting comes after the two men met in Palm Beach in March. Musk has said he would not be giving money to political campaigns. A future role in a Trump adminisitration would "likely be in the mold of the role previously held by Isaac Perlmutter, the former Marvel chairman and confidant to both Peltz and Trump."
