A new poll has found that 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden nationwide by four points, with the former president winning over independent voters.
The Dailymail.com/JL Partners poll found that American likely voters preferred Trump over all other candidates, at 40 percent. Biden came in second with 36 percent support, Robert F Kennedy Jr at 4 percent, and Cornell West at 1 percent. 18 percent of voters were still undecided.
In a head-to-head matchup, Trump has widened his lead over Biden, taking in 46 percent of the support compared to 43 percent for Biden. The poll turned in Trump’s favor in September, when support flipped for Trump.
JL Partners surveyed 984 likely US voters, and the poll has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
The poll was conducted before the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling against Trump being on the state’s ballot, but despite that, Jl Partners co-founder James Johnson said this may not affect Trump’s support.
"Voters might think Trump is guilty of the charges he has put to him, including a sizeable chunk of Republicans, but his record in his first term means he is still attracting support," Johnson said.
"But look closer and it becomes clear that Trump’s lead is more because of Biden weakness than Trump strength."
"Biden has taken a particular hit amongst 18 [to] 29-year-old women, and suffers from low enthusiasm amongst black people too. There is also a big chunk of undecideds – one in ten of Biden 2020 voters – who might not like Biden but can’t bring themselves to vote for Trump. The takeaway from this has to be that, come the election, the race will be tighter. As we end 2023, both candidates have it all to play for."
