A new poll conducted ahead of New Hampshire’s primary election, in which 2024 GOP frontrunner won on Tuesday, has found that Trump holds a seven-point lead over incumbent Joe Biden for in the general election.

The Messenger/Harris poll, published on Wednesday, found that Trump received 48 percent of the support of registered voters, while Biden received 41 percent. An additional 11 percent were still undecided.

While support for each respective candidate fell largely along party lines, Independent voters supported Trump, 43 to 36 percent, with 22 percent still undecided.

When other candidates were included, Trump won with 42 percent, with Biden raking in 33 percent support. Independent candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr received 12 percent support, and all other candidates received 2 percent or less.

Two-thirds of voters did not want Biden to run for a second term, at 66 percent, with 40 percent of Democrats and 75 percent of Independents responding as such. A smaller number of voters said they didn’t want Trump to run for a second term, at 52 percent, with 18 percent of Republicans, 82 percent of Democrats, and 59 percent of Independents responding as such.

Biden’s job performance remains low, with just 38 percent of voters stating that they approved of his performance as President, while 57 percent disapproved. More voters said they "strongly disapprove" of Biden’s performance than "strongly approve," at 42 to 15 percent, respectively.

Trump also has a commanding lead over Nikki Haley in the Republican primary, with Trump receiving 74 percent of the vote compared to Haley’s 11 percent. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who suspended his campaign on Sunday, received 9 percent support.

The poll was conducted between January 17 and 21 of 3,034 registered voters, and has a margin of error of 1.8 percent.

As of Tuesday morning, with 94 percent of the votes counted, Trump led Haley by over 10 points in New Hampshire, 54.4 to 43.3 percent, according to the Associated Press. Trump was declared the winner at 8 pm on Tuesday, as the last of the state’s polls closed.
