GOP nominee Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris 49 to 46 points in a new, national head-to-head poll. This comes as Harris and the Democrats have attempted to leave behind some of Harris' more left-wing positions she has held to date.

According to the poll from Rasmussen, the three-point lead shows a slight gain for Harris compared to the last set of data from Rasmussen, showing Trump leading 49 to 45. When third party candidates are added to the mix of candidates, Trump comes out on top again at 47 percent to Harris' 45. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has four points with others having about one.

Kennedy is reportedly going to be suspending his campaign on Friday and is considering an endorsement for Trump in the 2024 race. The Rasmussen poll used 1,893 likely voters between Aug. 15 and Aug. 21 with a margin of error of +/- two percent.

According to aggregated polls from the Real Clear Polling average, Harris is up by 1.5 points overall nationally, within the margin of error. However, when the election comes down to the electoral college as of Aug. 18, Trump comes out on top with 287 to 251 votes, according to RCP. On the top issue of the economy, Trump is far ahead of Harris on the topic, according to recent polls

Polls have tightened over the last few weeks, perhaps thanks to Harris' "honeymoon" stage after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race. Harris has been painted at many corporate media outlets as a moderate but has gone back on several positions.

In 2019, she was rated as the most progressive senator in Congress, according to GovTrack. She has reversed herself on banning fracking and is claiming that she will be tough on the border if she is elected president, despite the last four years of relatively soft border policy from the Biden-Harris administration.

Her economic policies, however, including the endorsement of a 25 percent wealth tax on wealthy Americans and price controls have been slammed by pundits on the left and right. Bernie Sanders (I-NH), a self-claimed Democratic Socialist, has called her economic policies "strong" and "progressive."
