57% of likely voters think the media has given the better treatment to Kamala Harris so far in the election.
The view is shared across the political spectrum, with 65 percent of Republicans, 53 percent of Democrats, and 54 percent of unaffiliated voters agreeing that the media has been more favorable to Harris so far in the election cycle.
Along with this figure, 50 percent of likely voters think most reporters are helping Harris in her campaign efforts, while only 14 percent believe that reporters are assisting Trump. Another 26 percent of respondents believe that reporters are unbiased, with 10 percent remaining unsure.
The survey also indicated that 60 percent of likely voters believe reporters generally support the candidate they prefer when covering political topics, an increase from 51 percent in 2020. Conversely, 28 percent of voters think reporters try to cover the news in an unbiased manner.
Those who strongly support President Joe Biden are among the most likely to believe the media is unbiased. The poll found that 55 percent of respondents who strongly approve of Biden’s performance also think that most reporters strive for impartiality in their campaign coverage.
The survey, conducted between August 12 and 14, included responses from 1,158 likely voters. The findings come as Harris has gained significant momentum and has shrunken the lead that Trump had built against her predecessor. However, Harris continues to face criticism for her lack of commitment to press conferences and interviews where she would answer policy-related questions without a teleprompter.
