Over 78 percent of Turning Point USA Student Action Summit attendees said they wanted former president Donald Trump to be their 2024 presidential candidate according to a straw poll taken at the event.
Fox News reports that the former president "dominated" the poll by getting over three-quarters of the vote. In second place was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who came in with 19 percent.
On Saturday, Trump spoke at the TPUSA summit and teased a 2024 run saying he "may just have to do it again." He also told the crowd "If we are going to save our country we have to get to work immediately" and "we have to reclaim America."
The presidential poll was worded as such to attendees: "If Donald Trump DID run and the 2024 Republican presidential primary offers the following choices, for whom would you vote?"
In ranking who attendees wanted to run for president after Trump and DeSantis, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem came in third with 1 percent. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, former Ambassador Nikki Haley, and former VP Mike Pence all came in under 1 percent.
Other polls taken at the summit revealed that 92.7 percent of attendees disapprove of the Republican establishment in Washington. Over seventy-three percent of participants said they are not confident the Republican party effectively communicates to younger voters.
Polls were taken to gauge who the participants thought would be the most difficult Democrat to beat in the 2024 election and 30.3 percent said California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama came in second with 13.6 percent followed closely by 10.5 percent for Hillary Clinton, and 10.3 percent for Bernie Sanders.
Vice President Kamala Harris and New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came in last with 7.9 percent and 5.9 percent respectively.
