Trump National Doral has a rich history with the PGA Tour, hosting events annually from 1962 to 2016, a total of 55 tournaments.
The course, known as the "Blue Monster" for its challenging layout, was the site of the Doral Open and later the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship. The last PGA Tour event was held at Doral in 2016, after which the tournament moved to Mexico due to the expiration of the sponsorship agreement with Cadillac and the inability to acquire a replacement title sponsor at the time.
"I just heard that the PGA Tour is taking their tournament out of Miami and moving it to Mexico, as an example," Trump said at the time, back when he was the 2016 Republican nominee. "They're moving it to Mexico City which, by the way, I hope they have kidnapping insurance. But they're moving it to Mexico City."
Only the greatest golfers will have the opportunity to hit the course, and the $20 million purse is designed to attract around 70 of the sport's top players.
Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis welcomed the return of the PGA Tour to Florida, writing on X, "Great to see the PGA Tour returning to Miami next year for an event at the Blue Monster course at Trump Doral."
