President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday to say that "Biden can only enter the White House as President if he can prove that his ridiculous '80,000,000 votes' were not fraudulently or illegally obtained. When you see what happened in Detroit, Atlanta, Philadelphia & Milwaukee, massive voter fraud, he's got a big unsolvable problem!"
Twitter slapped a warning label on the tweet that read "This claim about election fraud is disputed."
While there have been reports that Biden has won the requisite number of votes, there are concerns from the Trump campaign that, due to irregularities, that may not be the case. There have been recounts of ballots in many of the battleground states, such as Georgia, and Pennsylvania, with recounts upcoming in Wisconsin, and the Trump campaign is pushing for more.
The AP reported that Biden won 80,085,824 votes to Trump's 73,912,552. The 2016 election saw a turnout of 60 percent of eligible voters, when Trump won 62,984,825.
There have been consistent claims of voter fraud since the 2016 election, when Democrats alleged fraud and foreign influence. Claims were reignited in the 2020 election, when Democrats pushed hard for the voting process to switch to an absentee voting, mail-in balloting model, which led to incredible amounts of confusion, although no fraud has been evidenced.
NPR reported that the 2020 presidential election had "more votes cast" than "in any other US [presidential] election in history." They stated that the the election had the "highest turnout in more than a century."
Many states implemented new voting procedures, including early voting, and mail-in balloting increased, which led to a turn out of 66.5 percent of eligible voters.
When pressed by reporters on Thursday on the question of whether he will concede if the electoral college affirms a Biden victory, Trump said “Certainly I will."
