"I’m protected by the Presidential Records Act totally. It shouldn’t even be a case. It’s not a criminal case."
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday blasted Special Counsel Jack Smith's latest actions in additional indictments against him, saying it was "harassment."
During an interview with Breitbart News on Thursday, Trump spoke with Washinton Bureau Chief Matt Boyle about the additional charges that have been brought against him by President Joe Biden's Justice Department.
The new charges allege that Trump "held onto sensitive military secrets he knew he shouldn't have retained access to, shared them with others and directed his staff to help him evade authorities’ efforts to get them back," according to the Wall Street Journal.
When Boyle asked Trump about the additional charges, he responded, “I just heard it as I’m sitting down. This is harassment. This is election interference."
“I’m protected by the Presidential Records Act totally. It shouldn’t even be a case. It’s not a criminal case," Trump continued.
"He’s got 20 times, 30 times the documents I have, and he has not made it easy for them either,” he said, addressing classified documents that Biden has in his possession. "All you hear about is Trump... [T]his is a two-tier system of injustice. That’s what we have."
The main allegations of the new charges center on that people connected to Trump attempted to destroy footage of security cameras during the summer of 2022. The additional charges allegedly implicate the head maintenance man at Mar-a-Lago, Carlos De Oliveira.
De Oliveira, 56, allegedly told another worker that Trump wanted the security camera video after Trump had been subpoenaed. In addition, they charged De Oliveira with lying to the FBI during interviews for saying he didn't have any involvement in moving the classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.
Trump's campaign said Thursday night, "This is nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their Department of Justice to harass President Trump and those around him."
In response to the interview question about what the legal outcomes of the case will be, Trump said, “I think they’ll end up being an embarrassment to the Democrats and an embarrassment to our country and they have lifted my poll numbers, in all fairness."
