In an interview Tuesday, former president Donald Trump said that football legend Herschel Walker will be running for US Senate in Georgia, assuring that "I think he’d win."

"He told me he’s going to, and I think he will," Trump told the Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show on Tuesday. "I had dinner with him a week ago. He’s a great guy. He’s a patriot. He’s a very loyal person."

Trump has reportedly encouraged Walker to run, issuing high praises of the football great, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"I think he’d win. It would be very, very hard to beat Herschel," Trump said. "I think beating him will be very tough. And I think he’ll run."

Walker, who played for the University of Georgia football team the Georgia Bulldogs, has yet to confirm whether he would be running or not, but tweeted a video earlier this month showcasing a Georgia license plate which suggests that he has moved to the state from his residence in Texas.

Support from Trump could mean Walker would potentially swing the GOP primary in Georgia. According to a poll from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution conducted earlier this year, 90 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of Trump, meaning they could potentially place their votes with the candidate he endorses.

Walker would have to make up his mind sooner than later and tackle getting donors, as well as his policy stances and political leanings to win over conservatives. Democratic opponent Raphael Warnock has already gained nearly $6 million in campaign donations as well as consolidated Democratic support.

Also announcing their bids to run for US Senate in Georgia is Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black and military veterans Kelvin King and Latham Saddler, with former US Senator Kelly Loeffler considering running against Warnock again.

On Tuesday Republican state Senator Brandon Beach told The John Fredericks Show that he’s "99 percent" sure that Walker would enter the race after July 4, when he "settles a string of business considerations."
