An attempt was made Donald Trump's life at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, after which Trump and his campaign thanked law enforcement and offered condolences for the family of one rally-goer who lost their life as a result of the attack.

On Sunday morning, Trump said that "it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening." The shooter was identified as 20-year-old Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks. Crooks was killed by Secret Service agents shortly after he attempted to kill the former president.

"Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday," Trump said on Truth Social, "as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening."

Trump was speaking to Pennsylvania rally-goers when gunfire rang out and he clutched his ear, pulling his hand away to see blood. He dove under the podium as the crowd around him ducked down. The gunman had Trump in his sights, but Trump moved his head a split second before the impact. If he hadn't, the shot would have done far more damage that simply grazing his ear.

"We will FEAR NOT," Trump continued, "but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win. I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin."

Trump is scheduled to announce his vice presidential running mate at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week and to accept the formal nomination of his party as the Republican presidential candidate to face off against Joe Biden in November. Both men seek a second term in office. A fundraiser was launched for the victims.
