After he called for a boycott on Goodyear tires on Wednesday, President Donald Trump said he would “swap out” the company's tires from the presidential limousine, reports the Daily Caller.
“On the Goodyear issue, you ride on Goodyear tires in the presidential limousine. If there were an alternative, you want those tires swapped out?” asked John Roberts, the Fox News White House correspondent during a press conference on Wednesday.
“Yeah, I would do that,” Trump responded. “I would swap them out based on what I heard. We’ll see what happens. Look, you’re going to have a lot of people not wanting to buy that product anymore. They’ll buy it from a competitor—made in the USA, too.”
Trump called for the boycott on Wednesday after Goodyear reportedly banned MAGA attire.
“Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for far less! (This is what the Radical Left Democrats do. Two can play the same game, and we have to start playing it now!)” tweeted Trump.
The ban Trump was referring to was made public after a Goodyear employee released a picture taken during a diversity training presentation which shows what is acceptable and what is not under the company’s zero-tolerance policy.
The policy bans “MAGA attire,” “Blue Lives Matter,” “All Lives Matter” and “Politically affiliated slogans or material.” It allows “Black Lives Matter” and “Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender pride (LGBT)”
Following the controversy after the photo was released to social media, Goodyear released a statement saying, “the visual in question was not created or distributed by Goodyear corporate.”
The statement adds that Goodyear has “always wholeheartedly supported both equality and law enforcement and will continue to do so.”
