Former President Donald Trump's lawyers on Friday sent a cease-and-desist letter to three different prominent fundraising organizations for the GOP, asking them to not use his name and likeness in outreach.
Apparently, Trump himself got wind of the fact that many GOP organizations are still using his name and likeness to raise funds for themselves which then go to people who tried (unsuccessfully) to impeach him.
According to Politico, some of the wording of these emails that found their way into Republicans' inboxes all across the nation read as follows:
"President Trump will ALWAYS stand up for the American People, and I just thought of the perfect way for you to show that you support him!"
"As one of President Trump’s MOST LOYAL supporters, I think that YOU, deserve the great honor of adding your name to the Official Trump 'Thank You' Card."
"President Trump’s TOP supporters" read the subject line of another mass email.
An unnamed source on the Trump team commented on the cease-and-desist letter:
"President Trump remains committed to the Republican Party and electing America First conservatives, but that doesn’t give anyone - friend or foe - permission to use his likeness without explicit approval."
