Trump slams FBI head Christopher Wray for suggesting he wasn’t shot with a bullet

"It was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard. There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called it a 'bullet wound to the ear.'"

President Donald Trump slammed Christopher Wray on Wednesday after the FBI director claimed that the GOP nominee may have been hit by shrapnel instead of a bullet during the assassination attempt on his life.

Trump posted to Truth Social, "FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was sure that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively 'uneventful' - Wrong!"

"That’s why he knows nothing about the terrorists and other criminals pouring into our Country at record levels. His only focus is destroying J6 Patriots, Raiding Mar-a-Lago, and saving Radical Left Lunatics, like the ones now in D.C. burning American flags and spray painting over our great National Monuments - with zero retribution," Trump added. "It was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard. There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called it a 'bullet wound to the ear,' and that is what it was."

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked Wray about the eight shots fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks on July 13. “We obviously know that Mr. Comperatore lost his life, two other rally-goers were injured, and then the one that hit President Trump. Where did all eight bullets go?”

Wray responded, “With respect to former President Trump, there’s some question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear.” This is despite a photo of a bullet passing the head of Trump when he was speaking as well as other evidence as cited by Snopes. The fact-checking site rated the claim that it had been anything but a bullet as "false."

The FBI director’s comments contradict the GOP nominee’s doctor who previously said the bullet came “less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head.” Former White House physician and current Congressman Ronny Jackson (R-TX) said in a statement after the shooting, “As reported and witnessed by the entire world, he sustained a gunshot wound to the right ear from a high-powered rifle used by the would-be assassin."

Jackson added, “The bullet track produced a 2 cm wide wound that extended down to the cartilaginous surface of the ear. There was initially significant bleeding, followed by marked swelling of the entire upper ear.”

Additionally, a report from the New York Times concluded, “a detailed analysis of bullet trajectories, footage, photos and audio by The New York Times strongly suggests Mr. Trump was grazed by the first of eight bullets fired by the gunman.”

The Times reported that the timing of shots as well as Trump’s movements strongly suggest that he was hit by the first of eight shots fired by Thomas Mattew Crooks.
