Trump to speak to Zelensky amid rumors of Biden stepping out of race: report

Donald Trump will be repotedly be holding a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday. The call comes as Trump is leading Joe Biden in polls in advance of the November presidential election and rumors abound that Biden will be stepping out of the presidential race amid pressure from within his own party. Zelensky recently said that were Trump to win the White House, he would look forward to working with Trump on continuing US support for the war effort in Ukraine.

The call is reported to be scheduled for Friday. "Donald Trump will be speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky," MSNBC reported. "Donald Trump could very well win the presidency in November and take over the White House on January 20. So, there is a lot on the line for a Zelensky in Ukraine, understanding ... if the second Trump administration would come into power."

Trump has repeatedly said that were he to win the presidential election in November he would aim to end the war between neighboring nations Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours. He's said that he would do this through negotiation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and and Ukraininan President Volodymyr Zelensky. The war began shortly after Joe Biden took office in 2021 when in February of that year Putin invaded Zelensky. The Biden administration has been generous in their financial support for Ukraine, giving over $113 billion in military and humanitarian aid to that nation as they fight off their Russian aggressors.

Many of those in the Republican Party, specifically the MAGA contingent, oppose further aid to Ukraine as the entire undertaking becomes a boondoggle with little evidence that Ukraine can take back the territory lost in the conflict.
