President Trump speculated a third presidential run in 2024 if his lawsuits alleging voter fraud in the 2020 election fail to change the results, the Associated Press reports.
"It’s been an amazing four years," Trump told attendees at a White House Christmas party on Tuesday night. "We’re trying to do another four years. Otherwise, I’ll see you in four years."
"It’s certainly an unusual year. We won an election. But they don’t like that," Trump claimed during his speech. "I call it a rigged election, and I always will."
The Trump campaign has pursued lawsuits in multiple swing states alleging widespread voter fraud. While a number of cases of voter fraud have been uncovered, most of Trump's lawsuits have been dismissed by judges and legal experts, including Trump's Attorney General William Barr, who do not believe that there is enough evidence of voter fraud to change the results of the election.
The Associated Press criticized Trump's holiday event by stating that the room was packed together and many were not wearing masks, although there is no evidence that anyone in the room was currently infected with coronavirus. Spokeswoman for the First Lady, Stephanie Grisham, said in November that the event would have "the safest environment possible."
"Attending the parties will be a very personal choice," Grisham further stated.
The White House will also be hosting a Hanukkah party on December 9, a day before the first night of the holiday.
If Trump successfully runs for a second term in 2024, he would be the second President in US history to serve two non-consecutive terms. The Democratic President Grover Cleveland is thus far the only President to do so, having served as 22nd President of the United States between 1885 and 1889, and again as the 24th President between 1883 and 1887.
He would also be the oldest President to serve in the office at the age of 78. Ronald Reagan was 77 when he left office while Joe Biden will also be 78 upon being sworn in, although Trump would be older by a few months if he were sworn in for a second term in 2025 to succeed Biden.
