"Donald Trump is not going to get a fair shake in DC," Morrisey said.
West Virginia's Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has suggested that the Biden DOJ's prosecution of Donald Trump, set to begin in late August, be moved to the wild, wonderful state next door as Trump is unlikley to receive a "fair shake" in DC.
"Donald Trump is not going to get a fair shake in DC," Morrisey said, "the home of the Swamp. If prosecutors insist on proceeding with this politicized case, they should move the venue to West Virginia. West Virginians believe in upholding the rule of law and don’t support a double-standard of justice."
Trump was arraigned in DC on Thursday and pled not guilty on all four counts levied against him by the Biden administration's Department of Justice. He was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct and official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
There has been broad speculation that a DC trial against Trump, featuring a DC, Obama-appointed judge who had given thousands to the Obama campaign, and who has levied harsh sentences against January 6 defendants, as well as a DC jury, would be biased.
Trump also suggested the move, saying "The latest Fake 'case' brought by Crooked Joe Biden & Deranged Jack Smith will hopefully be moved to an impartial Venue, such as the politically unbiased nearby State of West Virginia! IMPOSSIBLE to get a fair trial in Washington, D.C., which is over 95% anti-Trump, & for which I have called for a Federal TAKEOVER in order to bring our Capital back to Greatness. It is now a high crime embarrassment to our Nation and, indeed, the World. This Indictment is all about Election Interference!!!"
The prosection of Trump at all appears to be almost entirely politically motivated, many have claimed. Trump is Biden's primary political opponent going into the 2024 election season, and some polls show the two men polling neck and neck for the people's vote. Trump went as far as to say just one more indictment would secure his victory. Another indictment is expected to come from Fulton County Georgia.
Trump's support as not waivered amid the continuing legal woes.
