On Wednesday, President Trump said that rockets fired at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, on Sunday came from Iran. He warned against future attacks against Americans in Iraq.

The president tweeted pictures of three Iranian rockets that had allegedly failed to launch.

Trump continued "Guess where they were from: IRAN. Now we hear chatter of additional attacks against Americans in Iraq."

In the thread Trump added, "…some friendly health advice to Iran: If one American is killed, I will hold Iran responsible. Think it over."

Eight Katyusha rockets were launched at the embassy on Sunday, causing damage to buildings and vehicles. The US embassy is located in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone. According to Iraqi military officials, the majority of the missiles hit a residential complex inside the zone, which houses government buildings, foreign missions and and security checkpoint. Officials said the embassy's C-RAM defense system was used to destroy some of the rockets mid-air.

Embassy officials said in a statement following the attack, "The U.S. Embassy confirms rockets targeting the International Zone resulted in the engagement of Embassy defensive systems. There was some minor damage on the Embassy compound but no injuries or casualties."

Wednesday, Senators Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham sent a letter to President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, asking the President to send the Iran nuclear agreement and Paris climate accords to the Senate for ratification.

If the President declares the agreements as treaties and sends them to the Senate for ratification, the Senate would have to ratify them by a two-thirds vote, which is unlikely given the Republicans slim majority.

This would effectively kill the deals and attempt to block President-elect Biden from re-entering the deals after his inauguration, since treaties must be ratified by the the Senate. Biden has indicated that he intends to rejoin the Iran deal during his term in office.

Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani compared President Trump to former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and hinted that Trump could be hanged just as Hussein was.

"The day that madman was hanged was the day people celebrated the final victory," said Rouhani about the Iraqi dictator, according to a report by the Independent. "Trump's fate won't be much better than Saddam's."

Crippling economic sanctions by the Trump administration have significantly restrained Iran’s economy. Tensions increased between the United States and Iran earlier this year after the US military killed Iranian terrorist General Qasem Soleimani.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blamed Iran-backed militias for Sunday’s attack on the embassy. Pompeo said the attack wounded Iraqi civilians.

"The people of Iraq deserve to have these attackers prosecuted. These violent and corrupt criminals must cease their destabilizing actions," Pompeo said in a tweet following the attack.
