Doanld Trump vowed to continue doing outdoor rallies after Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate him at a Butler, Pennsylvania rally on July 13 earlier this month. According to Trump, the Secret Service has also promised to ramp up security for the 45th president.
Trump posted on Truth Social, "I will continue to do outdoor rallies, and the Secret Service has agreed to substantially step up their operation. They are very capable of doing so. No one can ever be allowed to stop or impede free speech or gathering!!!"
The comments from Trump come after the USSS recommended that he stop doing outdoor rallies in light of the security failures leading up to the assassination attempt on his life. In response to the comments, a Trump campaign spokesman said, “Obviously with an indoor venue, you have a capacity."
“It doesn’t pack the same punch. There’s something about being at one of those outdoor rallies," the campaign official added.
USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following the assassination attempt on Trump but only did so after an embarrassing hearing for the agency's director. Cheatle failed to answer simple questions such as how many USSS agents were there the day of the assassination attempt as well as if anyone was dispatched to be on the roof where Crooks took his shots from.
Recently, Trump promised to go back to Butler, Pennsylvania in order to hold another rally. "I will be going back to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a big and beautiful rally, honoring the soul of our beloved firefighting hero, Corey, and those brave patriots injured two weeks ago. What a day it will be — Fight, fight, fight! Stay tuned for details."
