Tulsi Gabbard says Biden's 'woke radical agenda' is to blame for surge in girls undergoing child sex change surgeries

Former Democrat Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has slammed President Biden for pushing a “woke radical agenda” onto children, saying it is the reason for the enormous surge in recent years of teenage girls seeking bilateral mastectomies in the belief that they can change sex. 

In a blistering segment of The Tulsi Gabbard Show, the former congresswoman cited a recent paper published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that showed a 389% increase in children receiving mastectomies from 2016 to 2019, which Gabbard says hasn’t happened by accident but is instead the consequence of radical gender ideology being pushed onto kids by the mainstream media, so-called medical professionals, and even President Biden himself.

“When you look at these statistics, you’ve got to realize that this is not an accident. This didn't just happen. This is very intentional, and it's the consequence of this radical agenda that is being pushed on our kids,” said Gabbard. “They're rejecting the existence of objective reality by rejecting this most fundamental truth of the differences between a biological male and female.”

According to a recent investigation by Reuters, between 2019 and 2021, at least 776 bilateral mastectomies were performed on girls aged 13 to 17 in the U.S., and the number of minors being diagnosed with gender dysphoria soared from 15,172 in 2017 to 42,167 in 2021. Similar surges have been observed in every nation touched by the modern trans rights movement.

England’s soon-to-be-closed Tavistock gender clinic saw the number of female children being treated for gender dysphoria explode from just 32 in 2009 to 1740 in 2019, with the dramatic spike starting around 2014-2015. The clinic will be shut down next spring after an independent review of the service found it to be not a safe or viable option for young people.

Many on the left see this dramatic increase in numbers as a positive thing; a sign that we are a more open and accepting society and as a result, more transgender people feel safe coming out. But many others, like Gabbard, feel it is the messaging these children are receiving that is contributing to a social contagion of gender dysphoria in the younger generation.

Gabbard went on to criticize those pushing experimental puberty blockers onto children even after the powerful drugs were recently flagged by the FDA for causing a serious brain-swelling disorder.

“Many of the standard protocols that they are pushing include puberty blockers and hormones, some of which were just recently flagged by the FDA because of their plausible link to serious brain disorder, cognitive problems,” said Gabbard. “That hasn't stopped President Biden from going and telling parents that, quote, affirming your child's identity is one of the most powerful things you can do to keep them safe.”

Sweden, Finland, and England have conducted systematic reviews of the evidence for puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors and all three found it to be of such poor quality that Sweden and Finland have already pivoted away from the gender-affirming model of care and moved back to the more cautious, psychotherapeutic approach for treating children struggling with their identities, and England is expected to follow suit in the coming months.

The sharply increasing rates of detransition also call into question the practice of affirming every child who announces a transgender identity. A recent conference held in Canada suggested soon-to-be-published research will show a detransition rate of up to 30%, which is far higher than the oft-cited less than 1% statistic gender-affirming healthcare professionals are so fond of.
