Two Utah court clerks have been arrested for allegedly helping illegal immigrants evade ICE and escape out the back door of the Logan City Municipal Justice Court earlier this month.

ICE posted about the incident on X and said, “Two former Utah state court clerks were arrested June 10 for allegedly helping an illegal alien evade an ICE arrest in April. Jennifer Joma and Lauren Kelsey Morrow also allegedly obstructed immigration proceedings and lawful immigration enforcement by helping at least one of three other illegal aliens escape out a backdoor of the Logan City Municipal Justice Court so that ICE could not arrest or deport them.”

“After sneaking out the back door of the courthouse for the first time with an alien, Morrow and Joma were allegedly spotted on a surveillance camera waving and smiling at it, and Morrow used her middle finger in an obscene gesture at the camera. On the second trip, Joma allegedly drove off with three aliens in her car before returning alone to the courthouse for work,” ICE added in a statement.

The two individuals, Jennifer Joma and Lauren Morrow, now face three felony charges each in federal court: conspiracy to transport and harbor illegal aliens, harboring illegal aliens, and obstruction of proceedings before departments and agencies. Joma carries one additional charge of transporting illegal aliens, per the Utah News Dispatch.

In a filing from federal prosecutors, it stated, “After they overheard that ICE was at the courthouse to arrest someone, they improperly accessed court databases to determine who was not born in the United States. They then snuck every suspected illegal alien who was at the courthouse out a back door, where ICE, who was waiting in the parking lot for their target to leave the building, could not see them.”

According to the filing, Joma transported three of the individuals away from the scene in her vehicle. Both women have entered not guilty pleas on all charges

"Acting as self-appointed anti-ICE vigilantes, the defendants and others took it upon themselves to obstruct immigration proceedings and the lawful enforcement of United States immigration laws," the court filing added.

Following the incident, both women resigned from their jobs at the court.
