CTV News has apparently fired the two employees "responsible for altering a video clip" of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, splicing the tape so it appeared he was pushing a non-confidence motion and vote against the Trudeau government only because of his opposition to the Liberal dental care plan.

The media outlet posted in a statement, “The CTV National News today issued the following statement regarding a report on the September 22, 2024, broadcast: A report on Sunday's CTV National News broadcast did not meet our expected and required high editorial standards. We sincerely and unreservedly apologized for the manner this report went to air and the false impression it created."

The network said that it “conducted an investigation to determine whether a breach of our editorial policies and practices had occurred in this case,” and it found that two employees had altered a video clip to manipulate for a specific story.

"Their actions violate our editorial standards and are unacceptable. These individuals are no longer members of the CTV News team,” the statement added. “Our duty to provide accurate, fair and balanced coverage of the issues that matter to Canadians, and to do so fully independently is of the utmost importance to us, we will continue our work to earn the trust of the millions of Canadians who turn to CTV News each day and every day.”

CTV News had already issued an apology in an on-air segment, “Last night, in a report on this broadcast, we presented a comment by the Official Opposition leader, Pierre Poilievre, that was taken out of context. It left viewers with the impression the Conservative non-confidence motion was to defeat the liberals' dental care program … We unreservedly apologize to Mr. Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada. We regret this report went to air in the manner it did.”

The Conservative motion of non-confidence in the Trudeau government was defeated by a 211 to 120 vote with the New Democratic Party and Bloc Quebecois propping up the Liberals.
